In order to minimise inconvenience for both you and the engineer we have put together a list of things that will help your service visit to proceed smoothly and quickly.
The essentials:
- Any external cover must be removed. If the van is on site with an awning erected, you need to take it down before we arrive.
- Security devices such as wheel locks and clamps, hitch locks and alarms need to be removed or turned off.
- Your van needs to be EMPTY to permit free access to all areas. This is so that the dampness tests can be carried out, and we can inspect cabling and pipework. Plates, cutlery and so on in lockers above floor level can be left in place. All floor level lockers need to be empty as this is the most important area for the damp inspection. This includes the area under the bed, the cupboard below the kitchen sink and below the cooker! We may apply additional charges for moving your belongings (or waiting whilst you move them), or decline the service if there is insufficient access.
- As a courtesy to our engineer we respectfully request that the vehicle is clean and tidy. The toilet and waste cassette MUST be EMPTY and CLEAN. We will not service soiled toilets.
- Please remove clothing, bedding and towels. We also appreciate the removal of dog rugs, beds and cages.
- The site needs to be level.
- The ground must be firm e.g. well compacted hard standing or concrete. We will need to get under the vehicle and in the case of caravans lift it to remove the wheels. Please don’t park the caravan over wet puddles and potholes.
- We need a clear meter all the way around your caravan or motorhome. This is because we need to use a ladder to access the roof and in the case of a caravan enough space to remove the wheels.
- IT MUST BE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY – we will not carry out a service at the side of a public road, or on public footpaths or bridleways.
- We need to be able to park our van legally and without fees within a few metres of your caravan or motorhome. Our van is heavy and will sink into soft ground, so we will not traverse soft grass/paddocks in the winter months.
And additionally if we are working on a caravan:
- We need the locking wheel nut key if one is in use.
- Please leave the disengagement tool for your motor-mover where we can find it!
- We need the water filling hose that pulls in fresh water from the water drum.
If you have any doubts about the list above please contact us before the day of the service. If we arrive on site and these issues exist we reserve the right to decline to complete the work. Our call out fee will apply in these circumstances to cover our fuel costs and travel time.
WE DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WORK ON VANS THAT ARE BEING USED AS YOUR FULL TIME HOME.
These things will help:
- The leisure battery should be installed, but please do not plug the van into the mains.
- In the case of camper vans and motorhomes it helps if you can fill the fresh water tank to 25% or thereabouts.
- Your normal gas bottle should be installed and have some gas in it!
- Your normal mains hookup lead should be available.
- A source of fresh water nearby is helpful but not essential.
- A source of electricity nearby is helpful but not essential.
- Tell us about any known problems that need fixing when making the booking, so that we allow enough time – the engineer will have more than one booking per day and will be likely to decline unscheduled additional work.
Please appreciate that our arrival times are an estimate and impacted by weather and traffic – if we anticipate a delay of more than 30 minutes the engineer will call if it is possible to do so safely.
WEATHER:
In the case of extremes of weather we may cancel or postpone the service visit at short notice. We will do our best to reschedule as soon as our schedule and the weather allows. We do not carry out servicing in freezing conditions due to the risk of damage to water systems.
PAYMENT:
Payment is required before the engineer leaves. We do not invoice or offer payment terms. If we are fitting special order or high value parts we may ask for payment in advance.
You can pay by cash, bank transfer or card (we do not accept AMEX or corporate payment cards).
If you are coming to us:
- We operate on a strictly by appointment basis only – if you have not booked in with us, please do not turn up and expect to be admitted. Our entrance has locked gates and the site may be unattended.
- We are unable to offer “While you Wait” appointments. There is a bus service a short walk from the farm. You can also use the “on demand” DigoGo bus service details are available here: DigiGo – Digital DRT | Travel Essex
How to find us:
- Our address is Longlands Farm, Great Leighs, CM3 1PR. Putting the postcode into a SatNav will misdirect you to a neighbouring farm. Look for our location on Google maps – TourerCare has a pin on the map in exactly the right spot. Navigate to the pin.
- If you use What3words our location is ///survive.elsewhere.remain
- Our entrance is located opposite a road sign showing a 40 speed limit and a warning sign for horses – the entrance has a metal hanging sign with some pigs and “Longlands Farm” on it and a Caravan Club CL sign.
- Avoid Mill Lane and Paulk Hall Lane – they are narrow.
- The easiest route is via Great Leighs main street, turning into Boreham Road at the Castle public house. After you pass the village hall and width restriction, you will go down a hill and then start to climb. Look for the stables on the right, and then the road sign. Be prepared to turn in to the entrance at the road sign. Pulling away from the left kerb into the centre of the road as you reach the entrance will help to provide the clearance needed.
